Embed from Getty ImagesNigel Clough insisted he was unsure whether Burton’s 2-1 win at QPR will be his final match as Brewers boss – but admitted he is interested in a potential return to Nottingham Forest. Clough has been given permission to speak to Forest about the managerial vacancy at the City Ground, where he made his name as a player and his late father Brian achieved legendary status as manager.Asked if the victory at Loftus Road signalled the end of his second spell at Burton, Clough said: “I don’t know whether it is or not.“There’s been an approach and we’ll sit down in the next few days and talk about it.“I’m not going to be naive enough to suggest to you that I’m not interested in a club I’ve got such a long association with.“Burton means a lot to me too. Timing in football is never good – it stinks at times.“There’s lots to think about and lots to talk about over the next few days.“The most important thing was to not let it get in the way of what happened today. This game has been the priority all along.”Burton’s win was only their second in nine league matches and lifted them out of the relegation zone.Luke Murphy’s stunning strike gave them an early lead and Lloyd Dyer doubled their lead early in the second half before Conor Washington pulled a goal back for Rangers.“The players have been great in training as always – you saw the work-rate,” Clough added.“It was important to get out of the bottom three and we’ve done that.“This game today was so important for the club. Whatever happens in the next few days happens.” Ads by Revcontent Trending Articles Urologists: Men, Forget the Blue Pill! (Visited 12 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0 Star Trek is out, scientists have found. Our bodies can’t take extended space travel.Science Daily reported, “Houston: we have a problem.” Italian scientists studied epithelial cells growing in the International Space Station and found them aging much more rapidly than on earth. “Space-flown cells differentially expressed more than 1,000 genes and secreted high amounts of pro-inflammatory cytokines,” they discovered. “Ultimately, this induced significant oxidative stress, causing inflammation among endothelial cells, which in turn, led to atherosclerosis and cell senescence (biological aging).”So unless future space travelers have kids quick and train them well, long trips seem unlikely. And who knows what other deleterious effects will be found on the body during exposure to microgravity and cosmic rays? “We’ve evolved to rely on gravity to regulate our biology, and without it, our tissues become confused,” the journal editor remarked. “Worst of all: they age faster!”Good grief; we didn’t “evolve to” rely on gravity. We were created to thrive on the environment we were given. “The heavens are the Lord’s heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man” (Psalm 116:15). But even with our feet on terra firma, we grow old, groaning under the curse (Romans 8).The only way to achieve star travel will be to get a new body in heaven that is not subject to aging and decay. The only way to qualify is to repent and believe the gospel (John 3,). For those of us who have accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation (see map), part of our inheritance will be a new, glorified body ( I Corinthians 15). What will it be like? We don’t know, except that Paul compares the old to a buried seed and the new to a sprouted plant. We will be like Christ, John said, because we will see Him as He is (I John 3:2). After His resurrection, Jesus was not limited by space and time; locked doors could not keep Him out, and He could appear and vanish at will. Dr. A. E. Wilder-Smith speculated that these appearances sound like the resurrected Christ was walking in a higher dimension. Just as the inhabitants of Flatland would be baffled by footprints in their world, we would be flabbergasted by someone appearing out of nowhere and vanishing. In the new heavens and earth, there will be no more tears, sickness, or death, because we will be raised incorruptible (1 Peter 1:3-8). Although there will be a new earth, the saints may not be limited to it. Since we will be like the angels in heaven, as Jesus said (Matthew 22:30), we may have the universe open to us for exploration. Paul said that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, the things God has prepared for those who love Him (I Corinthians 2:9). Whatever we find, we know it will be fantastic beyond all imagination, most of all because we will see our Redeemer face to face and be overwhelmed with the glory of God, the Creator of all things. Will you be there? Don’t trust in mythical Star Trek hopes. You won’t live long enough to see a starship, even if one is ever deemed theoretically possible. If you rode on it, your body would age to death long before reaching the nearest star, even if you didn’t become demented (1/06/13). No one has observed physical beings traveling across the galaxy, but there are many eyewitnesses of the risen Christ (more than 500 at one time, I Cor. 15:6, many who were still living when Paul wrote about it). New Testament authors Peter, John, Matthew, James, Jude, and Paul were all eyewitnesses, not wavering in their testimony all the way to martyrdom, along with all the other apostles. In these pages we have repeatedly shown that true science falsifies Darwinian evolution and other secular origin myths. We have also demonstrated that true science is consistent with the Bible (e.g., 10/27/13). If you respect observation and evidence, it’s time to go where the evidence leads, like the skeptical atheist Lee Strobel did. When he examined the evidence, he found it so strong, he decided it took more faith to maintain his atheism than to become a Christian. See his story in The Case for a Creator (watch on YouTube) and The Case for Christ. We hope you enjoy our science reporting here, but don’t stop with mere knowledge. It’s time to grow out of Trekkie adolescence and embrace mature responsible choices between fact and fiction, between myth and reality, between life and death. Billy Graham, in his 95th birthday special airing this weekend, shares the message he has faithfully preached to millions of people for decades, a legacy that his son, daughter and grandson are continuing. His aging body is going the way of all the earth, but his soul is filled with living hope and confidence. The message is simple. It’s for everyone. It’s the answer. Come to the cross.

Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Matt ReeseHouse Bill 183 was recently introduced by state representatives Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield) and John Patterson (D-Jefferson) to create a tax credit program that would incentivize retiring farmers to sell or rent to beginning farmers in Ohio.“I am grateful for the opportunity to introduce this legislation with Rep. Patterson who will help bring the next generation of Ohio farmers into the agricultural industry and ease the financial burden for retiring farmers,” Manchester said in an April 10 press conference. “I’ve seen this scenario played out first hand in my own district where retiring farmers without family successors are looking for someone to take over their operation but face tough financial barriers when selling their land or assets. This program would incentivize retiring farmers to look to beginning farmers to take over their operations by decreasing their tax burden on selling or renting their land and assets. It would also set beginning farmers up for success by giving them the opportunity to farm and learn best practices through a financial management program.”The language in HR 183 is modeled after a similar 2018 program in Minnesota that has already encouraged 162 established farmers to sell or rent to beginning farmers for a total of $1.4 million in tax credits. Proponents are hoping the Ohio program will have similar success.“Established farmers and ag producers would receive a state income tax credit when they sell or rent agricultural assets like land, machinery, building facilities, or livestock to a beginning farmer. The credit is equivalent to 5% of the sale price, 10% of the cash rent or 15% for a cash share deal,” said Jenna Beadle, director of state policy for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. “Beginning farmers could also receive a tax credit up to $1,500 for taking a qualified financial management course but do not receive tax credits for buying land or other farm-related items. A beginning farmer is defined as an Ohio resident who has been farming for less than 10 years with a net worth of less than $800,000 and cannot be a relative of the established farmer.”Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio Farmers Union and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association are supporting the bill. The program will likely have a proposed $10 million cap over 5 years, at which time the program can be renewed if it has been successful. The Ohio Department of Agriculture would determine the eligibility of candidates and the organizational framework for the program. The young farmer candidates must provide the majority of labor on the farm.“Farming is a very financially challenging occupation to get into,” Patterson said in the press conference. “The idea is to help our young people now and make this this transition into farming because it is our No. 1 industry in the state of Ohio. We recognize that and we celebrate opportunities for our young people to go into farming.”
Things have changed.Globalization: Globalization has been around a long, long time. But in the last couple decades, a lot of labor moved overseas because labor was cheaper there. Then, white collar jobs started to follow. As it turns out brains are cheaper there, too. Then, more and more global competitors stepped up and started competing. People around the world aren’t only every bit as smart as you are (wherever you are), they’re also every bit as competitive. Your customers are dealing with this competition. Your company is, too.Disintermediation: (The Internet, in some form or fashion, shows up on this list a couple of times). You don’t want to be a newspaper right now. You don’t want to be a book publisher. You don’t want to be a record label. You don’t want to be a commodity. The Internet makes transactions faster and cheaper. It’s (still) disintermediating whole industries. And we’re just paving the cow paths. Two Recessions The beginning of this Century started with a serious recession when the tech bubble burst. Not to be outdone, the financial sector decided to remind us just how much things can unravel. These recessions have reinforced a global “scarcity mindset” and a further push for transactional, commoditized business models at all levels. Your clients are under margin press. You might have felt a little margin pressure, too.The Rise of Purchasing: Purchasing has grown more powerful. They’re managing global supply chains. They are sometimes paid bonuses on saving their companies money. They are trained to make you feel like a commodity. They’re laser-focused on price. And they’re part of your dream client’s buying committee and decision-making process. Your dealing with purchasing. The salespeople that sell for you customers are also dealing with purchasing.Consolidation of Vendors: It’s easier to business with one great partner. It’s difficult to manage a bunch of partners that each do things differently. Plus, consolidation allows you to command lower prices. Companies are consolidating vendors. They’re limiting the number of suppliers they use to a smaller, more manageable number of real Level Four Value Creators.Commoditization: You’re not Wal-mart. Your company’s business model isn’t lowest price. But all of the above listed forces make it feel as if the only value you can create is around price. It isn’t true. But if you don’t create a higher level of value, you will surely be treated like a commodity. If you behave like a commodity, the market will agree to treat you like one.Your Customer’s Required Financial Performance: Your customers are under pressure to perform financially. And this is no longer something that just a few people in executive management are concerned with; it’s organizational. Even low level stakeholders within your client companies are responsible for a line on the P&L. They’re under greater pressure to perform. They have less time to spend with salespeople that can’t help them. They need Level Four Value Creators, salespeople that can help them improve their results. The Internet: Here it is again: The Great Leveler. Your clients can learn as much about you as you can them. You can know more about your prospects with less effort than at any time in history. The tools we’re using have radically reshaped the nature of sales and the nature of our relationships with our clients–and prospects. There is a new tool kit, and you have to adopt and employe it if you are going to succeed.Your Customer’s Buying Process (but not as much as you might think): I don’t buy the idea that buyers are finding their own way through the buying process by using the Internet. They’re too busy to spend all of their time researching suppliers. But they are using more formal buying processes. And they’re including more stakeholders, and when they decide to abandon the status quo, they’re doing it with the consensus of more of their team members.Required Sales Skill Sets: Sales acumen used to be enough. To sell well, you needed product knowledge, the ability to prospect, the ability to tell a good story, to overcome objections, and to close. You still need to be able to do those things. But they’re not enough to help either you or your clients deal with the preceding nine factors. Now you need the ability to differentiate yourself by the value you create and negotiate to capture some of the value you create. You need deep business acumen, massive leadership skills, and the ability to sell change. Is there any question that you need to get better? Is there any question that you need to act with urgency? If you’re not working to become a Level Four Value Creator, you’re being left behind.
OTTAWA – Two Albertans were named Canada’s newest astronauts Saturday as the country marked its 150th birthday.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the platform of waterlogged Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa to name Jennifer Sidey of Calgary and Joshua Kutryk of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.Sidey is a lecturer with the University of Cambridge who has worked as a mechanical engineer, while Kutryk is an air force pilot who also holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in defence studies.Sidey told the crowd she was inspired to become an astronaut in 1992 when Roberta Bondar went into space aboard the space shuttle Discovery. She said she had the opportunity to attend a speech in Calgary by Canada’s first female astronaut.“I remember looking up to her being excited at the idea of being a scientist, being a Canadian and having the opportunity to explore places beyond our world,” she said.“I’m grateful to have had that role model and that memory makes this moment so powerful for me.”Kutryk, who holds the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the air force, said he is honoured to be joining the Canadian Space Agency.“Throughout the recruitment campaign, Jenny and I met some amazing Canadians, scientists, doctors, engineers, pilots like myself. There is so much talent in this country,” he said.“I stand on the shoulders of the great Canadian astronauts before me, they inspired me to be the best that I could be.”Kutryk, 35, was fascinated with space as a child, according to a biography posted on the Canadian Space Agency website. He said he knew his life would focus on helping to explore it.“I have always wanted to leave the world a better place than I found it, and I believe that space is one area where I can do so, Kutryk said in a question and answer on the space agency’s website.Sidey, who will be 29 in August, said her motto is “fortune favours the brave.” She said her greatest previous achievement was to become a lecturer at Cambridge, something she never dreamed of when she first moved to Britain in 2011 as a engineering graduate.Sidey and Kutryk will move to Houston this month to start the two year training program for astronaut candidates. The program provides instruction in the systems on board the International Space Station and a host of other things ranging from spacewalks to survival training to Russian language instruction. The two astronauts will be officially welcomed Tuesday at Canadian Space Agency headquarters in Quebec.Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version wrongly said Side is a lieutenant colonel in the RCAF, it’s Kutryk who is in the air force
